Find out more »In Store Event – With Robin Ince
Just after Easter we'll be getting a visit from comedian, writer, science enthusiast and bibliophile Robin Ince. Robin will be in town for his Happiness Through Science tour and I highly recommend getting along to his Perth show if you can. As cool as his science related stuff is, it's another of his projects that particularly intrigued me. The Bad Book Club documents Robin's search for the very worst books he could find, the heroic failures of literature. Along the…

Book Launch: Evermore
Another event hooked up for October! Actually, it's being run by the nice folks at South Perth Library. Isobelle Carmody will be talking about her new graphic novel Evermore. But we'll be on hand with plenty of copies to deal with the desperation to own one that will most assuredly follow. This is a free event, but they do like folks to book so follow the link and we'll see you there! http://bit.ly/1RGQ8VQ.

Book Launch with Lee Battersby
Magrit by Lee Battersby Our first event of the year is a book launch with WA author and friend of the store, Lee Battersby. Magrit is an illustrated young adult/children’s title, and that's all I'm saying about it right now. Teasers and blurbs to follow! Event-wise we'll be starting in the store with a reading from Lee, a Q&A and of course lots of you getting your copies signed! After that fun and games, the attendees are invited to join us across the lane at…

Book Launch – Juliet Marillier
Den of Wolves As with the first two, this is mixture of fantasy, folklore and mystery-thriller. We return to ancient Ireland as once again the healer Blackthorn and her friend and sometime bodyguard Grim are sought out to help someone with an unusual problem. As with the other two in the series, there is a familiar fairytale at the kernel of the book, though I won't spoil that for you by telling you what it is. Suffice to say that…

Book Launch – The Subjugate by Amanda Bridgeman
The Subjugate by Amanda Bridgeman I was hoping to do more events in 2019, so I'm thrilled to be involved with launching WA author Amanda Bridgeman's new book, The Subjugate. It's a science fiction / crime thriller set in a religious community where violent criminals are neurally 'edited' to remove their criminal tendencies and are then returned to serve the community as obedient servants called Serenes. It's also a community plagued by a recent spate of horrific murders. As the body…

Books, Chocolate and Drinkies
Ok folkies, I've got some very cool news for you! On Tuesday the 23rd of April we'll be hosting not one but two of my favourite modern spec-fic writers, Charlie Jane Anders and Annalee Newitz. We'll be starting in the store about 3.30 pm where Annalee and Charlie will be signing books, maybe doing a reading and a little impromptu Q&A. But that's not all we're doing. Followers of Charlie's social media will be aware of her bookshop / chocolate…

Meet the Author: Catherynne Valente
You'll find books by Catherynne Valente all over the store, since not only is she a customer and staff favourite, but she also writes in an array of spec fic sub genres. In addition to the very popular young adult Fairyland series, she's also written some wonderful folklore and history inspired books as well as weird-fiction and her latest science fiction humour title Space Opera. We've also read two of her books for our book club, Radiance and Deathless. Recently…
Find out more »Cancelled – Meet the Author: Dervla McTiernan
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret that we have had to cancel this event in the immediate term. I'm very pleased to announce that we'll be hosting an evening with Dervla McTiernan on the 24th of March. With her third crime novel, The Good Turn just about to be released I of course put my hand up for an event, hosted at Durty Nelly's Irish pub. Since Dervla emigrated from Ireland to Western Australia in 2011, I think…

It’s the third in the Warrior Bards series and returns readers to the Gaelic kingdom of Dalriada and an ancient time of magic. We’ll be doing the event in…
