The Very Odd Bookclub – May

On Sunday the 31st of May we’ll be getting together at Durty Nelly’s to discuss The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter.

This is a collection of ten fairytales, most of them familiar, retold through the lenses of psychology, gender, sexuality and power. Here traditional text and subtext are reversed or even completely subverted, taking stories the reader knows and revealing sides of them that are obvious in hindsight and yet confrontingly new.  Here are Vampires, werewolves, beauties and beasts, even Puss in Boots in a way you’ve never seen them before that’s likely to change the way you think about fairytales forever.
