An Evening with Tiptree

August 24, 2015 @ 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM

This is another of our ‘pirate book festival’ style events where we get people able to speak to a specific interesting subject, organise a venue and invite you all along.

In this case we’re recognising the one hundredth birthday of Alice Bradley Sheldon, who wrote science fiction for many years under the name James Tiptree Jr. If you’re already familiar with Sheldon / Tiptree and her body of work then this will be a chance to get some more perspective and learn about the effect she had on others, if you’re unfamiliar with her then it will be a wonderful introduction to a remarkable time in science fiction history and the even more remarkable woman at the centre of it. Our guests will be independent publisher and one of the editors of the recent Letters to Tiptree collection, Alisa Krasnostein and from the English and Cultural Studies department of UWA, Dr Tess Williams. They’ll be interviewed by ABC 720 Radio presenter and Perth Writers Festival veteran Diana Darmody.

This is a free event but we would appreciate RSVP s via facebook or e-mail at stefen@stefensbooks.com.au so we can assure appropriate seating.
Note that Durty Nelly’s is a licensed venue so under 18’s who wish to attend must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
