The Very Odd Bookclub – November
November 30, 2014 @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
This is another regular bookclub thing where we meet to attempt to unravel the forces of post-modern literature.
On Sunday the 30th of November we’ll be getting together at Durty Nelly’s to discuss The Black Corridor by Michael Moorcock.
This month we’ll be reading The Black Corridor by Michael Moorcock.
First published in 1969, it tracks the mental decline of a solitary pilot on a colony ship. The oppression of the void and his deep loneliness is juxtaposed with recollections of the corrupt and dying society that he has fled. It was one of the first books I read that suggested that humans might be ill-equipped to deal with the reality of the vast emptiness of space.
The Black Corridor is one of three novellas bound together in the Sailing to Utopia collection. The other two are The Wrecks of Time an
inter-dimensional thriller and The Ice Schooner, a Moby Dick like story of an ice-ship that travels across a future frozen earth in search of the
legendary city of New York.
