Stefen’s Bookclub – May

The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu

I’ve been somewhat impatiently waiting for this book come out in the standard paper back, and thus be eligible for book club selection. It’s the winner of the 2015 Hugo award for best novel, and the first book by a Chinese author to do so. The Three Body Problem is the first in a trilogy, with the second book, The Dark Forest already available and the third, Death’s End due this month. Set in China during the cultural revolution and later in the modern age the book has a lot of familiar themes and ideas and it will be interesting to see what people make of the differences if any, that the perspective of a Chinese author makes. There’s a lot to talk about in this book and I’m looking forward to where it takes us.
