The Sudden Appearance of Hope

I’ll be honest, this was not my first choice for this month’s book. After The Affinities I wanted to do something that was more fantasy or big tech science fiction. Unfortunately some other books I wanted won’t be available in time, so we’ll be featuring Claire North’s book The Sudden Appearance of Hope a bit earlier than I planned. Now that I think about it though, this is probably an interesting book to read while The Affinities is still in our minds. The Sudden Appearance of Hope also deals with community and belonging as well as new social paradigms born of technology so some comparisons are inevitable. This book also has a lot to say about social media and the way identity is constructed in an internet-ubiquitous world.

We read a Claire North book, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August for the December 2015 book club and I recall it being a very good night so I’m looking forward to another interesting conversation.
