Book Launch: Welcome to Night Vale

October 20, 2015 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

On the 20th of October the second biggest event in Night Vale literary history will happen!

fink

The first is of course the moment that young Tamika Flynn kicked open the door of the Night Vale City Library and strode out defiantly, a copy of Dickens ‘Barnaby Rudge’ in one hand and the severed head of a Librarian in the other, confident that the skills she had acquired in deconstructing Victorian drama and urban guerrilla warfare would stand her in good stead for the rest of her life.

There is, I should be honest, something of a drop off between that and our upcoming event, and I expect that it will move further down the list as other more significant things occur so being there when it was the second biggest thing is even more important.

From 6pm we’ll be launching, in store, a fictitious book about a real town or a real book about a fictitious town, possibly both. It will be available in a variety of forms, printed, scrimshaw, projected on the backs of passersby, or inserted directly into your memory by a group of old Gypsy women. We expect that the City Council mandated chanting and wailing will last about an hour and a half, broken only by the playing of a special message by the person who has claimed to be the writer of said book. Rumours of the recording having been made in a Strange Desert Otherworld remain unconfirmed.

After this (about 7.30) the attendees are invited to shuffle gibbering over to the Arby’s for a roof party. Due to liquor licensing laws, the Arby’s will be disguised as The Generous Squire terrace bar for the duration of the evening. There will also be prizes* and giveaways for those who best represent Night Vale civic pride. Prizes will of course be dangerous and/or toxic.

So be like Tamika Flynn and start a revolution, or don’t be like her and come here instead.

*Multiple heads on the same body may not enter prize draws separately.
